Hey Y’all!
I feel like August and September were a little dry in terms of acceptances. It’s tough to stay positive when the inbox is chock full of “thanks but no thanks” even the high-tier rejections I received on a speculative fiction short story of mine hurt. Actually, I find high-tier rejections to be a little more painful than form ones. It’s like they loved so much of what you said, but still don’t like it enough to commit. The real “it’s not you, it’s me” in the lit world.
At any rate, October’s been much kinder to us girl with 5 new pieces accepted already! Woo! I’m super excited about the fiction piece selected by Inlandia Journal, as it’s been a minute since any prose of mine (outside of a prose poem picked up by the lovely Trash Cat Lit) has been accepted. A local Indy journal agreed to publish 3 poems of mine, too, in response to an Eros themed prompt.
I gotta brag on myself for a minute. I’m super proud to have a piece accepted by Anti-Heroin Chic. They’ve been on my bucket list for a while and despite rejections, I kept at it and have a poem coming out with them in a couple weeks. I love the way they elevate the grittiness and granularity of life. It’s like a dirty window with elegant light pouring in.
Keep believing in yourself squad. Stay committed to improvement and enrichment and good things will keep happening. Don’t let the highs get ya too high and the lows get ya too low. I’ll drop those pieces when they come.
